3 Tips To Start Living A Meaningful Life

During a recent stressful period, the importance of connecting with, and living in accordance with values became ever so apparent to me. Identifying and moving in the direction of your values is important, and helpful in the treatment of a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Adjustment difficulties

When I was feeling stressed and overwhelmed a couple of months ago, I found myself at a crossroads. The main question that kept popping up for me was ‘Do I work more?’ I’m not one to shy away from working long hours, however, at this stage of my life, working more would also mean more time away from my 2 young children. This was where I noticed the importance of my values come into play. I value my career, growing, learning, and challenges. However, I also value family, connection, and being a present mum. When I mapped this out, I realised that my values around motherhood and family were stronger than my career-focused ones. This made it very clear to me that working more and being away from the kids more was not the option for me. As such, I needed to come up with another solution to reduce my stress levels. For me this came in the form of outsourcing tasks, deleting tasks that really weren’t important off my to-do list, and prioritising the ones left on my list. And it worked – I got through this full-on period with my wellbeing in tact. For the 3 tips on how I went about identifying and connecting with my values, check out the video below.
